God did, and look at how you turned out… 😉
John 17:4 I have glorified you on earth by finishing the work that you gave me to do.
John is beseeching to God that he has finished the work that He has given John to fulfill. We all have a purpose in life, a task that God has given to us from the day we were born. Some of us realize this early in life, others take a while longer to come to the epiphany that God has loftier goals for us than just to exist day to day. The Heavenly Father has put each of us on this earth with a task to perform, a calling if you will, but how do we find what that calling is? How do we know that what we are doing is what God intended us to do? He gives us hints, little road signs called blessings, some call it good favor or luck. Whatever the name for them, He lets us know that what we are doing is either on the right track or if we are veering off course. He is our pilot, our rudder, or port in the storm, and He will never steer us wrong. If we stop doing what He intended us to do, or if we are still trying to find it, He gives us hints and little pushes away from the path we are headed. How? Did you ever get the feeling that something isn’t right, a foreboding, shivers, or the small hairs standing on end on the back of your neck? All these are God trying to tell you that you aren’t headed in the right direction.
John 17:5 Now, Father, glorify me with that glory I had with you before the world existed.
Geez, really John? You not only tell Him when you are finished, but now you want your reward? Demanding much? I read these two passages, and it reminded me of a child wanting acknowledgement after doing a chore and wanting their allowance or a cookie or something. In my humble little opinion, I do not think we are ever done with God’s work. Glorifying Him, loving your neighbor as yourself, and doing works in His name, do not have an end. There are always people to help. God will let you know when your work is done. He will know when to give you your reward.
Until next time, God Bless.
