Hey, You, Quit Being so Selfish…

…Or if your not getting what you want, maybe there’s a reason.

James 4:1 Where do these wars and battles between yourselves first start?  Is it not precisely in the desires fighting inside your own selves?

Selfishness:

1.  devoted to or caring only for oneself; concerned primarily with one’s own interests, benefits, welfare, etc., regardless of others.

Selfishness, a basal desire to say the least.  Wanting something at the expense of another is never good and is bound to leave a trail of enemies wherever you go.   Sure, we all want things, but at what expense?  How far from God are we willing to stray to get what we want?

James 4:3 …when you do pray and do not receive, it is because you prayed wrongly, wanting to indulge your passions.

Praying Wrongly? What? Come on, James…

There is a right way and a wrong way to pray, and it has nothing to do with your posture, whether you lace your fingers or just put your palms together.  It has to do with the intention in your heart, and what is in the prayer.  Praying is not about winning the lottery or getting that new car.  Praying isn’t about asking God to get rid of the neighbor because he annoys you.  Prayer isn’t about things at all.  It’s about faith and showing God that you are still one of His Children.

James1:6 But the prayer must be made with faith, and no trace of doubt, because a person who has doubts is like the waves thrown up in the sea by the buffeting of the wind.

Faith, there is that word again, faith.  An unerring knowledge that He is there, and He will always be there to lift us up when we fall, and give us strength when we are weak.  A steadfast belief that, no matter what happens, God is the Heavenly Father, and He will never let us down.  Doubt Him?  How can we ever doubt Him?  Didn’t He give us His son to show His love for us?  The least we can do is not loose sight of His awesome power and love.

Until next time, God Bless.
